About Us

Welcome from the Nursing Team

Here at Aberystwyth we pride ourselves in delivering a learning experience which helps you understand what it takes to deliver excellent nursing care.

The Aberystwyth University nurse celebrates diversity, engages proactively with their learning journey and is flexible and confident to lead and deliver healthcare across both rural and urban settings. They understand the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s professional code of practice and how this guides the everyday approach to professional nursing practice.

The nursing programme here at Aberystwyth University offers a bespoke and intimate learning experience. The local community and environment have helped us shape the curriculum. Aberystwyth is a vibrant, cosmopolitan bilingual university town, located between the rolling Cambrian mountains and the stunning coastline of Cardigan Bay. You’ll feel part of the community and get to study on a campus with its own sports centre, a busy Arts Centre and you’ll be next door to the National Library of Wales, only one in five copyright libraries in the UK.

We hope you will enjoy learning about the fundamentals of nursing practice. By the end of the programme you will understand what it is like to be cared for through engagement with our dedicated service users and carers who help deliver the programme alongside us. You will learn how care, compassion, courage, communication, commitment and competence really influence the lived experience of those we are privileged to care for.

The Aberystwyth University Healthcare Education Centre is newly established and houses the Clinical Skills Unit, a state-of-the-art simulation suite where students can learn clinical skills in a safe and supportive environment.

Fifty percent of the overall programme is available through the medium of Welsh and if you are a non-Welsh speaker and wish to learn Welsh, the programme also offers conversational health-related Welsh lessons via a ‘cornel coffi a chlonc’ [coffee and chat corner].

As a nurse your skills will forever be in demand, and your learning experiences during your degree course will allow you to enhance your self-awareness, develop confidence, and clinical expertise. Nursing is a versatile profession, with employment opportunities available within primary, secondary and tertiary care, community services, education, research, management, tourism, industry, public and private sectors, voluntary and charitable organisations. Once qualified lots of opportunities are available to help you progress your career including roles in management, advanced and specialist clinical practice and research.

A warm welcome awaits all.
